Important - Parents Support during Games

9 Feb 2020 by Duncan Hirst

Welcome back and happy 2020!

Having been out around the courts the first 2 weeks there are a couple of things I’d like to draw out attention to in the hope all parents can assist. Can we ask for a couple of things on game day for your player:

1. Please provide a water bottle and ask that they take it to the bench so they don’t have to come over to parents during the game

2. Encourage your player to stay at the bench in time outs and half time to listen to the coach – this is the best time of learning

3. There should be no parents on “the bench”. This is the area from the coach/s to end of the players (which is a good place for the team manager or assistant coach for those teams with one).

4. Only those officials appointed by the club can be “on the bench” – and that is coaches and team manager ONLY

5. Please don’t approach the coach, bench or players during breaks unless necessary – the coach/player relationship is often built in these short periods and having players move away makes the task of player development very difficult

6. Players must sit on the actual bench provided – if there is not enough room please parents move along and provide this room for them. They should not sit on the floor – this is a hazard for refs and the coaches – and again encourages good player behaviour. They should not be standing next to bench unless they are about to sub.

Shortly our coaches will have new polos provided and will help to differentiate coaches and parents and make it clear what is the player bench.

We thank all parents for your assistance with allowing us to develop strong, confident young players.
